What if I can't sing?
Singing is only used during the lullaby composition portion of the class. Many people in our society feel they shouldn't sing, unless they can sing well. This kind of thinking does not apply here! Every culture in the world sings to their children. It is instinctive, and vocal quality does not matter. Children enjoy and prefer the voices of their parents, despite how they sound.
What if I don't know anything about music?
No problem! The main musical skill you need for this class is how to listen to it! This class is not designed for musicians. It is designed for parents who want to use music to make their birthing experience more relaxing, less painful, and more enjoyable.
What if I end up needing a cesarean?
The relaxation and imagery techniques you learn in the Music Birth class are great ways to prepare for your cesarean birth. I will personally come to your home the night before your cesarean and do a relaxation session with you, as well as assist you in processing your feelings of anxiety. (Price contingent on other services rendered.)
Many hospitals now will allow you to bring in your own music into the operating room. Find out if this is possible. If so, your birth partner can also lead you in a relaxation or imagery exercise during the procedure.
What if I decide to use pain medications during my delivery?
While medications usually take away pain, they do not take away anxiety. Quite often they can make a woman feel even more anxious. I have assisted several women who have chosen epidurals, but still benefited greatly from listening to music, and participating in relaxation and imagery exercises.
What if the baby's father cannot attend the classes with me?
You are welcome to bring whomever you would like to the classes. Parents, siblings, friends, and doulas are all welcome.
What makes Music Birth stand apart from other methods?
Comfort Measures: Music Birth teaches you a variety of comfort measures for labor, and provides appropriate music to support each technique. Other methods rely on only one or two techniques, leaving a couple with few options during labor.
The Music! Most classes do not teach correct music principles, or provide you with quality music like Music Birth does. I understand what music will help you the most, and what will help you bond to your baby now.
The training. Music Birth is the only childbirth education method that requires the instructor to have a college degree.
The therapy. As a Board-Certified Music Therapist, I can utilize music therapy interventions to help my clients prepare emotionally and mentally for birth, not just physically.
The Statistics. 67% of Music Birth moms deliver without pain medication and/or interventions.
